London Employment Monitor March 12 Highlights

  • Job vacancies across London’s financial services sector fell by 8% from February 12 to March 12
  • Compared to the same month last year, this was a decline of 57%
  • Job availability from Q4 11 to Q1 12 rose by 4%
  • The number of professionals entering the jobs market in March 12 was 18% lower than February 12
  • Continuing the pattern of decline in job seeker numbers, this was also 62% lower than March 11
  • The time taken to place professionals into new job roles rose by 6 days in March 12 to 67 days
  • The average salary for those securing new roles in March 12 was £50,330.

IT and computing sector best for jobs

IT and computing was the career sector with the highest number of job vacancies in March. That’s according to the most recent Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC)/KPMG Report on Jobs survey, which monitors demand for staff in different UK industry sectors on a monthly basis.

Financial sector recruitment in the UK remains slow, but the country is still faring well compared with other geographies, reports specialist jobsite eFinancialCareers.co.uk

The average number of UK jobs posted on the site decreased 11% from 3,270 in Q1 2011 to 2,923 in Q1 2012. This compares with a 10% drop in the Asia-Pacific region, 13% in the US and 14% in the Central Europe and Middle East region.
